【SSH企画】「宇宙重力波望遠鏡についての講演会」

去る10月10日、ドイツから来日していた宇宙重力波望遠鏡計画のリーダーである、ハノーバー大学アルバートアインシュタイン研究所のKarsten Danzmann教授、Fumiko Kawazoe博士をお招きし、宇宙重力波望遠鏡LISA計画や、進路の考え方などをご講演いただきました。
Karsten Danzmann教授は世界トップの物理学者であり、LISA計画が順調に進めば、ノーベル物理学賞が確実視されている人物とも言われています。
Karsten Danzmann教授の講演は全て英語で行われましたが、参加した40名の生徒は、夢のような本当の話に夢中になっていました。

Karsten Danzmann教授の後はFumiko Kawazoe博士に、進路の考え方をご講演いただきました。
Fumiko Kawazoe博士は日本の大学・大学院を卒業後、アメリカ・日本等で研究者として活動された後、ドイツに渡り現職についていらっしゃいます。
日本人として、女性として、研究者として、どのように選択をしてきたのかということを、ご自身の体験を元にお話頂きました。

予定の時間を終了しても1時間以上先生方へ質問をする生徒たち。
素晴らしい時間を過ごしました。
最後は玄関までお見送り。
2030年の望遠鏡打ち上げの時に再会するのを目標にする人もいました！

I think many other students will talk about how amazing your research is, so I'll just say this: I was truly moved from the bottom of my heart! Honestly, there were many parts I didn't understand in English, but even beyond the language barrier, my heart was stirred. That alone tells me you must be doing truly remarkable research. I've been struggling with my own future path lately, but after meeting you, I've decided to be persistent and trust my intuition no matter what I pursue. I'd vaguely wanted to become a physics researcher before, but meeting you today strengthened that desire even more. If I ever get the chance to meet you as an adult researcher, I will definitely tell you, “Thank you for changing my life!” (My name is Noda Momo)!!! I'm so glad I got to meet you, thank you so much!
Thank you for the wonderful lecture. I had never heard of gravitational waves before, and this was my first time learning about them. Since the lecture was in English, there were many parts I didn't understand, which made me want to study English more diligently. And if I ever have the chance to hear your lecture again someday, I want to make sure I understand it thoroughly this time.
