School Festival

2023/10/13

In my school, the school festival, which is held for two days in September, is one of the biggest events in our school. Because of Covid, it’s been a while since the last school festival. Many people come to the school festival event every year. Each class projects a performance this year, the first graders made leaflets about Asakusa and Ueno. There are many kinds of events, and each group chooses an event to write about, and make leaflets about it. It was tricky telling a lot of things in few sentences.

Some clubs also did performances, too. My club, which is the shamisen club, did a performance. We wore Yukata’s, which is a casual version of kimono. We don’t usually wear a yukata, so it was difficult wearing it. Our senpai (older members in the club) and the club teachers helped us wear it. The first graders played “Sakura sakura” and “Yose no aikata.” We had been practicing it hard for the school festival, and it was finally the day to show the results of our hard work. Many people came to our performance, so I had butterflies in my stomach the whole time. The performance went well. I am hoping to enhance my shamisen skills, and challenge a difficult song next year.

Overall, the school festival was undoubtedly one of my happiest moments in my life. I am excited for the next school festival.

We had a school festival on September 9th, and 10th. Before that, we prepared for the school festival on 8th. I will explain about that day too.

On September 8th we had to decorate our 1-5 class. In the morning, we went to the gym to do opening ceremony. Then we moved our desks and chairs to another classroom. It was hard to carry both. We practiced our leaflet presentation. Our group was first to try it, and it was difficult to not be distracted when we were practicing. I was worried about finishing our presentation perfectly. All the groups finished practicing, I went to the science room to help the science club. (I am in the science club.) I made posters to decorate the room, and I came to our classroom. I took my lunchbox and ate with my friends. It was good to have a chat while eating lunch, because usually I can’t. In the afternoon, it was time to decorate our class. I was so excited! Other classes helped us too. We made flowers and origami to decorate our locker. We drew pictures on the blackboard in front and back of classroom. Also, a fun thing was I and my friend drew the faces of our class’s friends. I think it looked like them. We finished decorating at 4 o’ clock. I was looking forward to tomorrow’s school festival.

The next day, on September 9th, in the morning we went to the west building to see their school festival. It was better than ours. I and my friends went to chemistry corner, band club, and wadaiko (Japanese drum) club. My favorite was wadaiko club, it was very cool. We didn’t have a lot of time to look around, but I was satisfied. We left the west building at 11 o’ clock. Then we ate lunch. I had to help science club so I did. I taught guests how to make bath bomb. Many people came to the science club, so I surprised. It was tough to welcome so many visitors. After about one hour of helping the science club, I found my friend to go around with me. We made a bookmark with our class’s friend’s initials in it. It was a great day, I had a fun time in our school festival. I was hoping to do a great job on my group presentation the next day.

The last day, September 10th, the east building had a school festival in the morning, not like yesterday. I had to help the science club in the morning. Like yesterday, I taught people how to make bath bomb. It went better than the day before. Then I met my friends and helped advertise 1-3’s leaflet exhibition. We laughed at bond man who was wearing bond costume. At half past 11, I did my presentation in 1-5. It was full of people in my classroom, I was very nervous to do the presentation. However, we did our best and I think it was very great. Then we ate lunch. I was very tired, but there was one more thing left to enjoy the school festival. I and my friends went up to the gym, to watch the brass band. The gym was full of people and we sat in chairs placed almost in the 1st line. The performance was wonderful! I clapped many times. I said to my friend in the brass band that it was awesome.

When the school festival was over, it was a shame. I hope to do better when I get into 2nd grade.

It was my first, fun, and special school festival.
