         I thought to myself, “oh my god, I don’t care that much about Meiji. I don’t think I’ll finish this.” But I continued reading, and it is such an interesting book. The emperor didn’t write a diary or very many letters. It’s hard to learn much about his life. The author tries to tell the story of his life by looking at what happened around him. So for example, Meiji didn’t write anything when he was a child. However, his father, Komei, wrote many letters and his life is well known. So we can learn what happened in Meiji’s childhood by looking at his father.
