The Pyramid Texts were written around 2500BC. They were written only for kings. The Book of the Dead was written around 1500BC. By that time, the information had spread outside the king, so rich people could use it too. There are some differences between the two texts, but basically they are very similar. Egyptian religion and culture didn’t change much in 1,000 years. That’s amazing to me. When I think about how different Japan or the United States was 10, 20, or 50 years ago, I can’t imagine a society that doesn’t change much for 1,000 years!

I actually had plans to visit Egypt this summer. I’ve been interested in ancient Egypt since I was a little kid. But I cancelled my plans due to the coronavirus. But it’s okay, I know I’ll visit someday!
